Most of my customers pick me because of the process. Its with mixed emotions I share that I'm a fairly successful 45 year old TikToker. I post videos daily of anything I am working on. For you, that means your project will have a video document from beginning to end, and you'll be the first person I share it with. For those of you without TicTok I do share also on Instagram and Facebook. And for those of you not on social media I'll text you videos and images.
Your level of involvement is up to you. Want input on every last detail? No problem. Want me to make all the decisions? No problem. Anything in between? Again, no problem.
In any case we will work together to find a product and budget that best works for you and your needs. Send pictures of things you love. Send pictures of things you hate. Tell me about you, so I can best capture you in your slab. I will walk you through every step of the process you want to be walked through. I'll never talk over your head or give you any salesy double talk. I often choose not to work with people, so if I choose to work with you I want you to be happy with the product.
Here's a typical order of things:
Pick the wood
De-bark the wood
Prep the mold and the wood for pouring
Pour the slab
de-mold the slab
flatten the slab
rough sanding
re-pour
sanding and pit filling
fine sanding
finishing
The schedule changes all the time. Most slabs take 4 to six weeks from the time I purchase the wood. I have 3 stations so I can never work on more than 3 at a time. I typically close booking if I have more than a 4 month wait. That doesn't mean I cant fit you in, because like I said, the schedule changes all the time. So Just ask
I do this more for the love of it than anything else. So, I really don't feel a need to collect a check and make a slab I know will fail or is a bad idea. If you want to buy a wood countertop from me, I'm going to tell you its not the best material for a countertop. If you ask if the epoxy will yellow I'm going to say I use the epoxy least likely to yellow, but all epoxy yellows over time with exposure to sunlight. If you want an olive slab and the other guy tells you he can do it so it will never split I will not make the same promise. If I accidentally put a gouge in your table I'm going to tell you and talk about the repair options with you.
Contrary to popular belief, the customer is not always right. More often than not I can spot the people that are potential problems in the quoting process but in the case that I cannot, I reserve the right to not do business with anyone. I never take a deposit until I purchase the wood which normally gives me time to analyze. Transactional people are welcome. I actually love transactional people because I'm an engineer, but if you're the type of person that always asks to speak to the manager, or makes family gathering uncomfortable because you're judgmental, I really don't want your business. But if you have a story and a crazy idea for a slab, I'm your guy.
